Red Mars by Kim Stanley Robinson
Mankind’s first attempt at colonising and Terraforming another planet doesn’t go well.
The first volume of Kim Stanley Robinson’s epic Mars Trilogy suffers from too much pointless talking amongst the characters at the expense of moving the plot along. Do we really need an entire page, plus diagram to explain the Martian calendar? Can't the author just say, "it was summer on Mars"? Later in the book, the author also fills three pages with diagrams explaining different emotional states of mind. Again, unnecessary. Too much detail. Less talk and more plot in the next volume of the trilogy, I hope. |
