Futuristic Violence And Fancy Suits by David Wong
Trailer park resident Zoey Ashe finds herself embroiled in a gangland war when she unexpectedly inherits a multi-billion dollar crime empire from her absentee father following his death in a mysterious explosion.
Saved from certain death at the hands of a psychopath by her father’s trusty, well dressed lieutenants, known as the Suits, Zoey and her smelly cat Stench Machine are transported to the near-future, anarchic city of Tabula Ra$a — a sort of Las Vegas on steroids — where she must fight for her life against her father’s nemesis, the rival crime lord Molech. Before his death, Zoey’s father was bankrolling research into bio-implants, which can provide the user with near-superhuman powers. Molech has obtained the technology, but unfortunately it tends to be unstable, resulting in the user blowing up if it is used. Molech believes Zoey has the key to making the technology work and proceeds to hunt her down with the intent of torturing the information out of her. Zoey and the Suits must come up with a plan to protect themselves and save the city from the destruction which Molech has threatened. This is a well-written, humorous and action-packed romp of a novel, which will keep you turning the pages until the very end. With engaging characters and plenty of twists and turns, it well deserves a few hours of your time. Recommended. |
